Most of my friends and family are familiar with my love for running as well as my commitment to being active in the Ithaca community. What better way to combine both pursuits than by leveraging my participation in the upcoming Berlin Amish Country Half-Marathon
in Berlin, Ohio to make a difference here in Ithaca? Samantha and I have been training for months, and we’re excited to invite you to support our efforts to raise $4,000 for Civic Ensemble.
is a local not-for-profit theatre company that creates productions to explore the most pressing social, political, and cultural issues of our time. The company brings audiences of different races, classes, and experiences together in a public forum to open dialogue through re-imagined classics and community-based plays. You can check out some of Civic Ensemble’s most recent productions here
Before volunteering with Civic Ensemble, I’d never realized theatre could be used for social change. After just a few months with the company, I see clearly how we can use the arts in community spaces to cultivate social change. Theatre is a powerful tool for facilitating dialogue. It’s also a powerful tool for skill-building, youth empowerment, and, of course, entertainment. Most importantly, Civic Ensemble staff live and breathe this organization — its mission, values, and commitment to social justice.
I’m passionate about supporting Civic Ensemble, and I hope you will join me.
